Earlier today over 50 riders completed the inaugural One Love Ride at the Marriott Hotel in Swansea, as an estimated 1,000 people took to the nearby roads and hotel car park to welcome the riders home.
Upon arriving at Jersey Marine, the group were given a police escort together with the Team Sky Support Car, proceeded along Fabian Way to the City Centre before arriving at the Marriott to be welcomed by the huge crowd. The riders were then presented to the crowd on the stage of The Wave’s live broadcast truck.
The four day event saw riders cycle over 340 miles from Paris to Swansea, whilst raising thousands of pounds for a number of different local and national charities including Ty Hafan, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Maggies Cancer Centre, Parkinson’s, Ty Olwen, Marie Curie and the Little Princess Trust to name just a few.
Some of the riders had never ridden a road bike prior to signing up to the ride and two of the cyclists rode the whole route on a tandem!
Richard Smith, Sarn Helen Cycle Events Director was delighted for everyone who took part, and having organised events such as this for over a decade, knew exactly how the riders were feeling and summed it up by saying:
They are all emotionally and physically drained, but every rider can take a huge amount of pleasure in what they have achieved, not only over the last four days, but during the many months of training they have done to make this personal journey of discovery possible. They should be extremely proud of their achievements and the money they have raised for their chosen charity. They are all heroes.”
Sarn Helen Cycle Events would like to thank Warburtons, Stratstone Jaguar Swansea and The Wave for supporting the ride.
